National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In Canada September is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation or colloquially Orange Shirt Day. As part of my journey, I work hard to listen and elevate Indigenous voices. Therefore, today I will just make some recommendations for others who may be looking for learning opportunities.

CBC Podcast Unreserved. A specific relevant episode is How Indigenous practices use fire for good

Robin Wall Kimmerer. Honestly anything by her is brilliant. She is a botanist who braids together western science and Indigenous ways of knowing. This is an episode of the podcast Ologies with Kimmerer as the guest speaking about moss.

Jennifer Grenz. An invasive plant biologist who, like Kimmerer, is bringing together western and Indigenous ways of knowing. Her book Medicine Wheel for the Planet is an excellent read.

A good place to learn is the Outdoor Learning School. I’ll be taking Season 2 of their 4 seasons of Indigenous learning this year.

Obviously, there are many more resources and opportunities to learn. And remember that reconciliation requires action.
