Today’s post is a little different. I’ve been working on a project for just over a year now and yesterday it was officially published.
I teach sustainability at a university. I was frustrated that I couldn’t find a good and affordable resource for the intro class. There are resources out there but they are often centered within a particular discipline, are too narrow, and too expensive. This last point was particularly problematic for me. Sustainability should not be exclusive, yet the costs of a university class with a ridiculously expensive textbook make it so. As a result, I decided that I would create an open education resource on introduction to sustainability.
I based the book on the course I have been teaching solo, online, and asynchronously since 2020 and before that co-taught for a couple of semesters. The book is interdisciplinary. It aims to integrate diverse voices in meaningful ways and recognize when diversity has not been part of the discussion. It also features a number of multimedia resources and interactions to create a more engaging resource for people, students or members of the public interested in sustainability.
The book is now live and ready for use. Please check it out and let me know what you think.
